David Nickel, Consumer Counsel

David Nickel David W. Nickel has been engaged in the active practice of law since 1982. David graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1979, from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, with a Juris Doctor in 1982 and with a Master of Public Administration in 1983, and from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, with a Master of Business Administration in 2015.

David worked for the Kansas Corporation Commission in Topeka and Wichita in various capacities from August 1982 to May 1986 when he began private practice of law with the firm, Depew Gillen Rathbun & McInteer, LC. He became a partner (member) in that firm in 1991 and has concentrated primarily in oil, gas and mineral law and administrative law. David regularly practiced before the Kansas Corporation Commission (Conservation Division) during his legal career of over 30 years.

David has frequently been a speaker/lecturer for several organizations including many continuing legal education seminars which have been sponsored by the Kansas Bar Association. For over 10 years, David was a co-author of the Kansas Annual Survey (of Kansas Law) in the area of Oil, Gas and Mineral Law. He has performed in leadership positions for several civic organizations which include the Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association and the Wichita Association of Petroleum Landmen. David is a member of the American Bar Association, Kansas Bar Association, Topeka Bar Association and Wichita Bar Association.
