Kansas Gas Service And The Salvation Army To Provide Winter Heating Assistance In Kansas Through Gift Of Warmth Program
Kansas City, MO--August 17, 2004--With energy prices expected to be high this heating season, The Salvation Army Kansas and Western Missouri Division and Kansas Gas Service, a division of ONEOK, Inc., have announced a collaborative effort to assist qualifying Kansas families with paying their winter heating bills.
The program, named Gift of Warmth, will be available to Kansas families who reside in the 82 counties served by Kansas Gas Service. Applicants are not required to be customers of Kansas Gas Service. Gift of Warmth contributions are granted to qualifying families regardless of their energy source for heating, including natural gas, propane, electric, fuel oil or firewood.
Gift of Warmth grants will be available for distribution, beginning January, 2005 through May 31, 2005. Applications for assistance will be available January 2, 2005 throughout the Kansas Gas Service service area. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, to qualified and approved families who may receive a one-time benefit of up to $300. To qualify, the applicant's gross family income may not exceed 200% of the poverty level guidelines.
Gift of Warmth is funded by the generous contributions of Kansas Gas Service customers and the ONEOK Foundation. To contribute, customers may designate a fixed amount added to their bill each month or request to round up their monthly bill payment to the next even dollar amount. Customers may also include an extra payment or send contributions directly to the attention of Gift of Warmth, c/o The Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. The Salvation Army will administer and distribute funds to qualifying Kansas families.
